Our Transliterations

transliterationBy what system do we transliterate?

The Ajam Digital Archive uses the transliteration system codified by the International Journal of Middle East Studies (IJMES), which allows for a direct transliteration of words, titles, and place names independent of provincial and regional accents.

While some native speakers may find these transliterations off-putting, it is important to have a standardized system that does not privilege particular accents or dialects. The Ajam Digital Archive has a wide geographic focus which includes a wide range of linguistic difference.
